Security forces conduct raids, dismantle explosives as clashes continue in Tripoli

Clashes continued on Sunday evening between Tripoli’s Bab el-Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen, as 4 rockets hit the Baranieh area in Bab el-Tebbaneh.

This as, Army Commandos units patrolled in Syria Street situated between Bab el-Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen.

According to reports, 2 fires broke out in the Bakar region during the clashes as 2 army members and 2 other civilians were injured when a rocket hit an army base in Talaat al-Omary.  

Since Saturday night, the death toll reached 6 people, four of them were identified as Ghassan Maarouf, Jamal al-Yafi, Mohammad Chama and Meqdad Dargham, while 40 others were injured.

This as the city witnesses violent clashes in Bab al-Tebbaneh, al-Bakkar, al-Chaarani, al-Hara al-Barraniyah, al-Rifa, al-Mankoubin and al-Mallouleh.  

The shelling also reached areas far from the regions that are usually affected by the clashes, as rockets hit Nadim el-Jesr and Azmi streets.        

In this regard, ISF forces conducted several raids in the region of Abi Samraa, while the LAF dismantled an explosive in the Tall region.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Army set up checkpoints in all main squares in the city.  

In this context, Tripoli’s Muslim Scholars issued a statement in which they held the Lebanese Army accountable for the incidents in the city, calling for arresting what they called Jabal Mohsen’s “armed gang”. 

For its part, the Arab Democratic Party issued a statement in which it condemned the attack on the Lebanese Army by “groups of mercenaries”, stressing that "targeting the LAF aims at creating strife."
