Zahle residents protest against Syrian competition in job market

A number of Zahle residents and self-employed workers staged a protest against the Syrian competition in the Lebanese job market.

Protesters stressed that "their movement does not by any means intend to provoke racism, but highlights the danger Zahle residents are encountering", pointing out that Syrians are not subject to the tax laws implemented on all Lebanese workers.

On another note, the municipality of Zahle had previously  stated that “it’s not concerned with such movements, as it prefers to deal with Syrian refugees in a legal and humanitarian framework.”
