Lebanon institutions to close next Wednesday for Ashura holiday

Prime Minister Tammam Salam issued Friday a memorandum announcing that State institutions, government offices and municipalities will close on Wednesday, October 12 as Lebanon’s Shiites mark Ashura, a major religious commemoration of the martyrdom of Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Mohammad.

Shiite Muslims around the world mark Ashura, or the tenth day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
