The Kataeb party expressed its rejecting to the attempts of imposing a president by force or imposing pre-conditions on the democratic process, calling for “committing to the democratic mechanisms and electing a president without any restriction or conditions.”
In a statement issued following its regular meeting, the party stressed the need to unite against plots to take over the state and the public institutions and to prevent any form of distortion or violation of the Constitution, in order to avoid the rule of law from turning into the rule of the powerful.
The party’s political bureau also slammed the state of the presidential vacuum, deeming it “huge scandal,’ adding that “any legislative work done before the elections of a new president should be considered a blatant violation to the article 73 of the Lebanese Constitution and an unacceptable normalization of the current vacuum.”
