The Lebanese labor force is estimated at 1.3 million, 25% (number ranging between 325 and 350 thousand) of them are unemployed.
However, the official rate announced is only 10%.
According to Information International, the unemployment affects primarily the young people and those freshly graduated from university, and reaching an average of 40%. The report added that unemployment touches sectors such as tourism, services, education n and commerce.
This percentage is subject to annual increase, according to the report by Information International, noting that around 30 thousand worker enters the job market every year, while only 7 to 10 thousand jobs become available during the best circumstances.
The causes of unemployment in Lebanon are numerous: Decline in economic growth and stagnation, the foreign competition (mainly Syrian), having around 80 thousand Palestinian refugees in the job market and many other causes.
