REPORT: Al-Ghaboun River, victim of environmental crime

Al-Ghaboun River used to be a source of irrigation water used by the residents of many neighboring towns, but with the surrounding factories dumping their waste in the river, it had become nothing but a source of contaminated water.

The farmers were unable to irrigate their crops and the fish that used to live in the stream are dead, not to mention the losses sustained by the owners of nearby touristic resorts.

According to the mayor, the industrial factories vowed to abstain from dumping their waste in the river’s course. However, this does solve the problem, as the complaints have reached the Health Ministry, which sent a team to inspect the situation.
