REPORT: Lebanese army says will win the battle against ISIS
The Lebanese army stressed on Saturday that there has been “no coordination with Hezbollah or the Syrian army” in its assault against the Islamic State group.
Military Spokesperson Director of Orientation Brigadier General Ali Qanso said in a press conference after the “Fajr al-Jouroud” offensive launch: “There has been no direct or indirect coordination with Hezbollah or the Syrian army in the LAF’s offensive.”

“We will win the battle,” he added.

Qanso also said that the “army believed there were around 600 IS fighters in the two regions, controlling some 120 square kilometers of territory and divided into three groups.”

Assuring that part of the army's mission is to uncover the fate of Lebanese abducted servicemen by the IS.

Nine Lebanese soldiers kidnaped during the 2014 raid are believed to remain in the captivity of the militants.

Four were executed while a fifth succumbed to his wounds. Sixteen were released in a prisoner swap in December 2015.

The Lebanese army declared on Saturday the start of a much awaited military campaign to eradicate the Islamic State militants from a border town in the frontier with Syria.
