After the landfills of Bourj Hammoud – Jdeideh and Costa Brava nearly reached their capacity, the cabinet asked the Council for Development and Reconstruction to draft a study within a period of 15 days to expand both landfills.
The landfills were supposed to reach maximum capacity within 3 years and a half, but the Costa Brava only lasted five months, while the one in Bourj Hammoud might last one year only.
The decision to expand the landfills represents an impulsive move that leads to more pollution, whether it happened on land or in the sea.
