Siniora misses Saad Hariri, Connelly meets with Nader Hariri

Future bloc leader Fouad Siniora said on Thursday that the government’s performance was mediocre in regards to the commitment of its members to the self-distancing policy adopted towards events in Syria.     

Following his meeting with Arab and foreign ambassadors, Siniora said that the ambassadors were very understanding, adding “we extend our hand to everyone, mainly the President for whom we have a great deal of respect.”      

He added that President Sleiman can engage in consultations which may lead to the formation of a government that would ease tensions in the country.      

“We are the ones being killed and we are not involved in the national decision-making process; this must be taken into consideration," he concluded.    

Siniora stressed that the Lebanese constitution is clear when it comes to the formation of governments, adding “we need to sit with the rival party at one table to agree on the form of the government.”     

When asked about the return of PM Saad Hariri to Lebanon, he said “I miss him.”

Commenting on reports depicting disputes among March 14 members, he said “as usual, some people are fabricating rumors; March 14 members are united," he said.

In the context of the Future Movement’s diplomatic meetings, the Director of the Office of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Nader Hariri met with the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Maura Connelly to discuss the discuss the political and security situation in Lebanon in the wake of the assassination of the Internal Security Forces’ Information Branch Chief, Major General Wissam al-Hassan.    

Following the meeting, Connelly stressed that it is for the Lebanese parties to agree on the way forward “through a peaceful political process”, calling for preserving the continuity of Lebanese institutions and government action "to ensure stability, security and justice in Lebanon."      

Connelly condemned in the strongest terms the assassination of Major General al-Hassan, stressing that the U.S. offered assistance in the investigation to help ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
