Hashem to LBCI: Lebanon's Baath Party uninvolved in Syrian crisis

Development and Liberation bloc MP Qassem Hashem confirmed on Tuesday that the edits (fatwas) issued by Sheikh Ahmad Al Asir and Sheikh Salem Alrafii on Monday outside the Bilal Bin Rabah mosque constitute yet another attempt to further involve Lebanon in the Syrian crisis. He also noted that the relationship with Syria is a strategic one adding that Lebanon's Baath party does not send fighters to Damascus.

In an interview with LBCI's Nharkom Said, Hashem insisted that the government be one of comprehensive political unity in order for it to be able to deal with all dangers facing Lebanon.

"The government must assume its role of fully controlling the borders and maintaining the citizens' security and that of the Lebanese municipalities," he said.
