REPORT: Radioactive material found on Ouzai shore raises public concern

After a canister was found at the Ouzai beach with “radioactive materials” written on it on Tuesday evening, it has been found that it does contain these materials, which are in fact used for petroleum industries.

In this regard, Director of the Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission (LAEC) Dr. Bilal Nsouli reassured that the issue has been contained; stressing that the materials did not leak and that there has not been any radioactive contamination.

Dr. Nsouli said that these materials do not have any usage in Lebanon, reiterating that no harm has been done.

The main question remains about the source of the canister, as security sources stressed that investigations were launched in this regard.
