The military court handed down a six-month prison sentence to Lebanese journalist and researcher Hanin Ghaddar on charges of defaming the Lebanese army, on the backdrop of stances she launched back in 2014 in Washington, a legal source reported on Thursday.
A court official told AFP that the military court issued on January 10 a 6-month jail sentence in absentia against Hanin Ghaddar found guilty of “defaming the Lebanese army, harming its reputation and accusing it of distinguishing between Lebanese citizens.”
During a conference session in Washington in 2014, a recording of which is available online, she described the situation in Lebanon as “Sunnis being clamped down by Hezbollah and the Lebanese army versus Hezbollah militia being the untouchables.”
