Former Minister Ashraf Rifi stressed that the expenses of electricity is the main cause for the increase of the public debt, adding that the ships brought by Minister Gebran Bassil should join Guinness book for setting a record in corruption.”
“What happened at the Energy Ministry is a qualified corruption and dismal failure, the price of which is being paid by the Lebanese citizens,” he said.
During a press conference, Rifi expressed concerns over the fate of the recently approved electricity plan, noting that Bassil’s insistence on surpassing all control departments in contracting power plants, on ignoring the partnership law with the private sector and on maintaining paralysis within the management of electricity.
Responding to the court verdict ordering him to pay compensation to Bassil, Rifi said that he will appeal the court’s decision.
“I accused Bassil of being the main corrupt in the Lebanese Republic and I meant what I said and will repeat it now and tomorrow,” he said, urging the judiciary to listen to him and allow him to submit the files he had compiled.
