President Aoun returns electoral draft law, says it needs amendments
President Michel Aoun signed on Friday a decree to return the electoral draft law to the parliament for reexamination.

According to a statement from the Baabda Palace, Aoun relied in his decision on several legal and constitutional studies to explain the violations in the aforementioned law.

He added that "by moving up the election date, voters will not be able to exercise their right to vote due to "the natural and climatic factors that often prevail in March (rain, thunderstorms and snow)."

Aoun pointed out that shortening the deadlines would prevent expats "from exercising their political right."

This law also "deprives 10,685 citizens of all sects who would turn 21 between the first of February and the thirtieth of March 2022 of their voting rights," he noted.
