Tourism Minister asks travel agencies not to promote Belarus as tourist destination

Minister of Tourism Walid Nassar gave on Thursday his instructions to travel agencies not to promote Belarus as a tourist destination in a bid to curb illegal immigration.

In a memorandum, Nassar said that such a decision was taken due to the worsening conditions on the Belarusian and Polish borders following the influx of migrants as tourists to Belarus from the Middle East to enter Poland, and since some of those wishing to immigrate are Middle Eastern and African nationals who use the Rafic Hariri Airport International airport as a departure point to Belarus using Belavia Airlines.

Later in the day, Ministry of Tourism clarified memorandum issued by Tourism Minister saying that “it is an internal memorandum made to confirm the memorandum issued by Civil Aviation Director General Fadi el-Hassan which was directed to airlines and ground handling services’ companies at Rafic Hariri International Airport, imposing restrictions on travel from the Lebanese Republic to the Republic of Belarus.
