Shocking numbers reveal random hiring in public sector

In a small country such as Lebanon, it is indisputable that having 33% of the labor force in the public sector is a dangerous figure.

The more serious fact is that one third of the public sector employees occupy unnecessary positions and were employed as favors.

For the first time, a survey conducted in cooperation between the Finance and Budget Committee, the Central Inspection bureau and the Civil Service Council revealed shocking numbers of reckless hiring.

More than 10 thousand employees were illegally hired between August 2017 and 2018; most of them were employed as electoral favors, despite a decision issue by the government to halt employment after the approval of the new pay scale.
