The decision to demolish the iconic blast-hit wheat silos was issued, and entered into force despite protests from the families of the victims.
After the government assigned the Council for Development and Reconstruction to demolish the monument that shielded part of the city from the ravaging blast, families of the victims of the port explosion rejected the decision, raised their voices and held protests whose echoes reached the Good Friday procession attended by the President of the Republic.
