Two Egyptian security sources said that Hamas seeks written assurances from the United States for a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip to agree to a truce proposal supported by the United States.

Qatari and Egyptian mediators said that Hamas responded on Tuesday to a three-stage ceasefire plan aimed at ending the eight-month-long war between Israel and the Palestinian movement, without providing details.
