UNRWA urges ceasefire to ensure polio vaccination campaign in Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has called for a ceasefire to facilitate a polio vaccination campaign in Gaza.

In a statement posted on X, UNRWA's spokesperson, Louise Wateridge, emphasized that ongoing military operations during the campaign could severely impact the ability of the UN and its partners to vaccinate children.

The spokesperson warned that any disruptions would have "disastrous" repercussions not only for children in the Gaza Strip but also for the broader region, which has already suffered greatly during the conflict.

The agency stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire to ensure the vaccinations can be administered, hostages can return to their families, and all affected communities can receive much-needed respite.
