Baydoun to LBCI: EU's decision to affect the Shiite community

Former Minister Mohammad Abdel Hamid Baydoun stressed on Tuesday that the European Union's decision may embolden Hezbollah to "reinforce" its political wing since "the group is a militia affiliated with Iran's Revolutionary Guards par excellence".

Baydoun added that French President Francois Hollande had telephoned President Michel Sleiman as a prelude to the EU's decision to put Hezbollah on its terror list.

In an interview with LBCI's Nharkom Said TV Show, Baydoun said that "Hezbollah undertook several operations in Bulgaria, Egypt and elsewhere," noting that the EU decision will take a toll on the Shiite community.

Former Minister Baydoun also noted that "Speaker Nabih Berri alongside Hezbollah have isolated Lebanon from the Arab states," adding that 'militias' are affecting the Shiite community which is largely composed of civilians who are neither related to Speaker Berri nor to Hezbollah.

The European Union placed the military wing of the Lebanese party Hezbollah on its terror list Monday in a major policy change toward the Middle East.
