REPORT: Mohammed Darrar Jammo’s murder re-enacted in Sarafand

The murder of a prominent Syrian pro-government figure Mohammed Darrar Jammo was re-enacted on Thursday in Sarafand under the supervision of the Prosecutor of South Lebanon Judge Samih al-Hajj.

In this regard, Judge al-Hajj stressed that the Lebanese judiciary alongside the security forces are vigilant, noting that the investigation into the case shall not be announced unless a decision is issued by the investigating judge in this regard.

"The crime is not politically motivated," Judge al-Hajj added.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Armed Forces heavily deployed in the vicinity of Sarafand and took tight measures in anticipation of any attack.

The Syrian pro-government figure, Mohammad Darrar Jammo, was killed by gunmen at his home in southern Lebanon on Wednesday the 17th of July, shooting him nearly 30 times in what appeared to be the latest sign of Syria's civil war spilling over into its smaller neighbor.

On Monday the 30th of July, Judge al-Hajj raised the death penalty charge against the wife of Mohammed Darrar Jammo, Siham, her brother, and her nephew, in accordance with articles 549, 219, and 72 of the Lebanese law that stipulates the death penalty.

Judge al-Hajj released Jammo’s daughter Fatima since proof of her involvement in the assassination was not found.

On Tuesday the 23rd of July, Siham Younes, the wife of pro-government Syrian journalist Mohammad Darrar Jammo, was handed over to the Lebanese Armed Forces Intelligence Bureau for suspicion of being involved in the assassination of her husband.

Syrian authorities stressed they were not responsible for the handover, adding that she was trying to enter the Lebanese territories through the Al-Arida border crossing where the General Security Department arrested her.
