LAF command says al-Atrash did not have a beard when arrested, al-Homsi is not a cleric

The Lebanese Armed Forces Command issued on Monday a statement whereby it denied the accusations launched by the Association of Muslim Scholars regarding the detainees Omar al-Atrash and Omar al-Homsi, stressing that Omar al-Atrash did not have a beard when he was arrested, while al-Homsi is not cleric; therefore, the prison’s laws can be imposed on him.

On Sunday, the Association of Muslim Scholars launched a vicious verbal assault against the military institution under the pretext that the Lebanese army shaved the beards of two Sheikhs arrested on terrorism charges, Omar al-Atrash and Omar al-Homsi.

The association also called for imposing the most severe penalties on what it called "sectarians" within the Lebanese army.

The Lebanese Army Intelligence arrested Omar al-Atrash Friday January 24, on charges of being involved in recruiting suicide bombers, smuggling rigged cars and explosive belts and planning terrorist attacks that have recently rocked the southern suburb of Beirut and Hermel.
