Lebanon’s General Security conducts raids following Ahmad Assir’s arrest
Sources told LBCI on Sunday that the detention of fugitive hardline cleric Ahmad Assir came after he had been tracked down by the General Security, adding “the arrest was based on information the institution obtained regarding his fake passport.”

Well-informed sources also said “a General Security unit raided the flat of Abdul Rahman al-Chami in Jadra upon Assir’s confessions,” noting that it also raided his shop in Sidon and arrested his son after failing to find him.

“Abdul Rahman al-Chami has been on the run since reports emerged on Assir’s detention,” sources said, saying Chami is suspected of harboring the hardline cleric and helping him.
