Sleiman: building Lebanon in the midst of rampant poverty is counter productive
President Michel Sleiman said that experience has proven that the building of Lebanon in the midst of rampant poverty does not serve as a predecessor for political or economic stability.                        

In a speech delivered at the launch of a support program for impoverished families on Tuesday, Sleiman stated that the Lebanese government holds a great deal of responsibility towards protecting poor Lebanese families from total social devastation .

“The State has become a financier of services, councils and funds developed due to various conflicts throughout the years” Sleiman said.

"We  urge Parliament to complete procedures to ensure the security and development of a retirement pension alongside placing optional social security on track paving the way for a comprehensive health insurance scheme”, Sleiman concluded.
