Lebanese Forces party leader Samir Geagea said on Tuesday that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was committing a flagrant crime against Lebanese expatriates, by complicating their voting process during the forthcoming parliamentary elections on May 15, 2022.
Geagea’s words came in an address he gave earlier on Thursday in Meerab, during which he announced the Lebanese Forces’ candidate for the Maronite seat in Tripoli Elie Khoury.
“In 2018, expatriates voted according to a specific distribution of polling centers, while in 2022, the ministry sabotaged this distribution and relocated polling centers from one state to another instead of adopting the method of previously accustomed to,” Geagea explained.
The LF leader pointed out that this incident occurred “in some countries only, and affects the mobility of the voter, as they will need more time to reach the target state in which they will vote.”
“As for the countries in which Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement have a base of supporters, such as African countries, Germany, and France, Lebanon’s MoFA has re-adopted the 2018 formula, in order to facilitate the voting process,” Geagea added.
