Maronite Bishops warn against disturbing security, calls citizens to vote
Maronite Bishops condemned on Wednesday the procrastination of Lebanese officials in carrying out the necessary reforms, in order for cooperation between Lebanon and the International Monetary Fund can take place, for the good of the country, and to begin implementing the recovery plan that will pull the country out of its plight and return the free economy to normal conditions as soon as possible.
The bishops’ comments were made during their monthly periodic meeting in Bkerke presided by Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai whereby they stressed that officials should seriously endeavor to hold the parliamentary elections, and “liberate the will of voters and candidates from the various pressures that impede the proper conduct of this procedure.”
They also encouraged all citizens to actively exercise their constitutional right so that they may contribute to bringing about the desired change and exiting the country from the collapse.
On another note, they warned against the spread of security breaches, particularly the murders that occur almost daily, while praising the military and security apparatuses for controlling the situation in the field with their limited capabilities.
