Sehnaoui to file defamation lawsuit against Future MP Ghazi Youssef

Minister of Telecommunications Nicholas Sehnaoui responded to the accusations made by the Future Movement’s MP Ghazi Youssef regarding alleged theft and corruption on the part of Sehnaoui at the ministry.

According to Youssef, Sehanoui commissioned a Chinese company by the name of Huawei to install 300 antennas to strengthen the third generation networks and the fourth generation LTE [long-term evolution, 4G] at a cost of USD $85 Million, i.e. USD $65 Million in additional funds.

In a press conference held on Thursday, Sehnouai said the accusation aim at slandering his person, adding that “the ones making the allegations are involved in a myriad corruption cases.”

Sehnaoui confirmed that he would be filing a defamation lawsuit against Youssef, hoping that parliament would proceed to lift his political immunity.

In his concluding remarks, the Minister clarified that the company’s work was not only limited to installing antenna’s but also LTE plants and the development of 3G terminals to increase network capacity by up to 3 times, adding that the Chinese company had issued a detailed statement on its work in this regard.
