Former President Gemayel, Former President Sleiman, Former PM Siniora call for ceasefire, election of new president to restore unity in Lebanon

Former President Amine Gemayel commended caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati for rejecting Iranian hegemony and for his commitment to national unity. Gemayel emphasized the urgent need to save Lebanon and halt ongoing violence.

After a meeting with former president Michel Sleiman and former PM Fouad Siniora in Bikfaya, Gemayel highlighted the importance of strengthening national unity to achieve parallel progress on five fronts.

He called for an immediate ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel and urged the implementation of U.N. Resolution 1701. Additionally, Gemayel requested support for government and parliamentary efforts with Arab and international partners to address the current crisis.

Gemayel stressed the necessity of electing a new president who could gain the confidence of both Parliament and the Lebanese people.

He also underscored the need for a national rescue government to devise a plan for state reconstruction and to address the damage caused by Israeli actions, in collaboration with Arab nations.

In his remarks, Gemayel pointed out the critical task of rebuilding Lebanese authority throughout the country, in line with the Taif Agreement. He concluded by calling for the approval of a plan for economic and financial reform and recovery in Lebanon.
