LF Leader Geagea says: US proposals could have ended the war, but sovereignty concerns remain

Leader of the Lebanese Forces party, Samir Geagea, stated that the proposals brought by U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein during his recent visit to Lebanon could have ended this war, although some of them somewhat encroach on Lebanese sovereignty.

He emphasized the need to avoid "worse proposals" in the future that might partially infringe on Lebanese sovereignty.

In an interview with "Al Arabiya Al Hadath," Geagea pointed out that the balance of power indicates that the Islamic Republic of Iran cannot win this war. At the same time, Lebanon "will surely prevail."

After noting that the Lebanese Forces party presented its political proposal during the recent Maarab meeting held about two weeks ago, he explained the background and justifications for this proposal in light of the ongoing war, which is not merely a military operation.

He said, "Currently, the war on the Palestinian side has ended, unfortunately, in Gaza, while the ongoing war is between Israel and Iran, primarily taking place on Lebanese territory, with some occurring in Yemen and Iraq, and rarely in Iran."

"Here we ask: what is Lebanon’s and the Arabs' interest in this war? We must put an end to the war, death, destruction, and devastation that Lebanon is experiencing, in addition to the country’s economic and financial collapse that has persisted for years," he added.
