US Secretary of State Blinken urges Lebanese leaders to fill presidency, highlights Egypt's efforts in Gaza

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Friday to discuss the situation in the Middle East. 

On Lebanon, Blinken and Abdelatty examined efforts to promote a diplomatic resolution allowing civilians to return to their homes safely and securely. 

Secretary Blinken further highlighted the need for Lebanese leaders "to swiftly address the country's presidential vacancy."

Regarding Gaza, the Secretary underscored the urgency of ending the war, ensuring the release of all hostages, and increasing the delivery of humanitarian aid. 

The Secretary further praised "Egypt's continuing efforts to secure the release of the hostages," thanking the Egyptian minister for the significant role his country has played in efforts to end "the conflict in Sudan, protect civilians, increase humanitarian aid, and advance a political transition to a civilian government."
