Arab diplomatic source tells LBCI: Blinken discusses Lebanon's situation with Qatari counterpart, proposes US plan and Qatari-Egyptian mediation

An Arab diplomatic source revealed to LBCI that the meeting between Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and his American counterpart Antony Blinken addressed Lebanon's situation.

Various proposals were discussed regarding the implementation of U.N. Resolution 1701, support for the Lebanese Army, and advancing the election of a president without preconditions.

The source noted that both sides agreed to increase aid to Lebanon and Gaza to support civilians and prevent regional security instability stemming from the war.

The source highlighted that Blinken presented his Qatari counterpart with an advanced proposal for the U.S. plan and Qatari-Egyptian mediation.

This plan includes the return of all Israeli detainees held by Hamas, a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and southern Lebanon, the transfer of internal security in Gaza to a police force affiliated with the Palestinian Authority, and the deployment of an international force along the borders with Israel and Egypt.

The source revealed that the proposals include deploying multinational forces along the Lebanese-Israeli border, strengthening the presence of the Lebanese Army, recruiting additional soldiers to guard border points with both Syria and Israel and forming a reformist Lebanese government.

The source confirmed that "the U.S. plan envisions resuming meetings with the Palestinian Authority, leading to rounds of negotiations with Saudi Arabia regarding the Arab-Israeli peace process."
