Iranian diplomats left Damascus embassy before 'assault'

Iranian diplomats in Damascus had left their embassy before it came under attack on Sunday, Iranian media said, after Syrian rebels declared the fall of the Tehran-allied government of Bashar al-Assad.

"Iranian diplomats at the embassy in Damascus evacuated the premises prior to an assault," the Tehran Times daily reported, citing foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei and adding that embassy staff were safe.
