IMF official Mohieldin tours Lebanese leaders-[REPORT]
President Michel Aoun received on Tuesday the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund and representative of the group of Arab countries Mahmoud Mohieldin, whereby they discussed cooperation with the IMF after the formation of Mikati’s cabinet and preparations for negotiations regarding the country’s economic recovery plan.
 
Mohieldin then met with Prime Minister Najib Mikati in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Saadeh Al-Shami, former minister Nicolas Nahas, IMF advisors Maya Choueiri and Mira Marei, and Mikati’s advisor Samir al-Daher. 
 
Following the meeting, Mikati stressed that “Lebanon relies a lot on approving a cooperation plan with the IMF to help it overcome financial and economic crisis that has reached unprecedented levels.”
 
“The government has started simultaneously preparing a plan for financial and economic recovery, in which basic reforms in economic and financial structures are included, in order to stop the financial loss caused by electricity sector in particular,” PM explained.
 
Mikati also underlined that “the government has completed the financial data required to start cooperation with the IMF.”
 
"We hope to complete the cooperation program before the end of this year,” he added.
 
“The reforms demanded by the IMF are a Lebanese necessity before being an external demand,” Mikati stated.
