Kuwait Minister says he presented suggestions on rebuilding confidence with Lebanon-[REPORT]
Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah met on Sunday with President Michel Aoun, whereby he made suggestions on how to rebuild confidence with the Gulf states, awaiting a response soon.

He also hoped that the Lebanese answer will be presented at the meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers to help launch a confidence-building initiative with Lebanon.

“There is a desire by everyone for Lebanon to be stable and secure, and this happens through the implementation of international and Arab legitimacy resolutions,” he stated.

For his part, President Aoun confirmed that Lebanon welcomes any Arab move that would restore normal relations between Lebanon and Arab Gulf states, and is committed to implementing the Taif Agreement and the resolutions of International Legitimacy, in addition to the relevant Arab resolutions.

Aoun mentioned that a proposal by the Kuwaiti foreign minister on building confidence with the Gulf states would be discussed before an appropriate position was announced, stating that Lebanon is keen to maintain "the best relations" with the Gulf Arab states.

Later in the day, the Kuwaiti Minister met with Speaker Nabih Berri, where they discussed bilateral relations as well as all the challenges we are going through regionally and internationally.

Furthermore, diplomatic sources told Reuters that proposals presented by Kuwait's foreign minister to Lebanon to end a diplomatic rift with Gulf states focused on implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and holding elections on time.

They also included remaining committed to the 1989 Taif Agreement that ended Lebanon's civil war, tightening controls on exports to the Gulf to prevent drug smuggling and cooperation between Lebanese and Gulf security services.
