Lebanon’s tobacco plantation: A thriving role model for other sectors
Caretaker Minister of Finance Youssef al-Khalil stressed to LBCI the significance of collaboration between all public sector departments as well as cooperation with the private sector and trade unions.

He also stressed that improving the performance of public administrations is only possible by creating sustainable partnerships.

Tobacco farming is the primary source of income for 25,000 Lebanese farmers who live in 457 towns throughout Lebanon. They sold their crops worth around $135 million to the Regie Libanaise Des Tabacs ET Tombacs, Lebanon’s tobacco authority.

It is a thriving official sector that must act as a role model for other sectors if Lebanon’s politicians are sincere about making reforms that will advance the economic sector in the country.
