REPORT: The merging of the majoritarian and proportional representation law

In a probable final attempt to ratify an new electoral law approved by all political parties, a merger between the majoritarian and proportional representation systems is now being discussed based on the electoral draft law proposed by Minister Fouad Boutros.

In this context, the Director General of Statistics Lebanon Company Rabih El-Haber told LBCI that Speaker Nabih Berri and PM Najib Mikati support the electoral law proposed by Minister Fouad Boutros but with some amendments that would satisfy the Future Movement and MP Walid Jumblatt.

Haber added that a draft law suggested by Former Minister Naji Boustani might be approved by all the parties, stressing that there are obstacles that would hinder the ratification of an electoral law that combines both majoritarian and proportional representation, including the division of the electoral districts.
