Italy urges Iran to avoid escalation in the Middle East

The Italian government stated on Thursday that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni requested Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a phone call, to avoid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The Italian Prime Minister's office said that during the call, Meloni  "emphasized the need to prevent the conflict in Gaza from spreading, including to Lebanon, and urged the Iranian president to avoid further escalation and to reopen the path to dialogue."
