Russia vetoes call for ceasefire in Sudan at UN

On Monday, Russia used its veto power to block a United Nations Security Council draft resolution calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan and the protection of civilians from the conflict that has plagued the country since April 2023.

The draft resolution, seen by AFP, urged all parties to "immediately cease hostilities and engage in good-faith dialogue to de-escalate tensions to agree on a nationwide ceasefire urgently."
