Trump's 25% tariffs on imported autos take effect

Steep U.S. tariffs on imported automobiles kicked in Thursday, fanning trade tensions with key partners amid mounting fears of consumer price hikes.

According to a Federal Register notice, the 25 percent tariffs take effect at 12:01 am (0401 GMT) on foreign-made cars and light trucks, with automobile parts to be hit no later than May 3.
