Head of the Future Movement MP Saad Hariri deemed the terrorist operation that targeted al-Qaa region “a planned terrorist crime,” noting that this attack provides additional evidence that Lebanon needs to remain on alert in order to face the threats.
In this regard, former Prime Minister Najib Mikati denounced the explosions, stressing the need to reshuffle the priorities by fortifying the constitutional institutions, ending the disputes and supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces.
MP Talal Erslan condemned the terrorist attack, noting that such an incident should make the Lebanese factions more coherent, strength and conviction of the power of national unity, which much be preserved above all else.
In turn, former President Michel Sleiman asked via Twitter about the international coalition and its mission to root out the Islamic State and its allies. “What are they waiting for?” he said.
This as MP Walid Jumblatt said that terrorism targeted the border today and tomorrow will target inside Lebanon.
“Isn't it better that we reinforce the internal arena by electing a president?” he asked via his Twitter account.
Also via Twitter, former Minister Wiam Wahhab called for “forming special Lebanese army units and deploy them across the border regions, in order defend the towns threatened by the terrorists.”
Amal Movement strongly condemned the suicide bombings which hit al-Qaa, calling on the Lebanese people to enhance their national unity and rally around the Lebanon’s army.
Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil inspected the site of the explosions. He said: “We are in an ‘open war’ with terrorists who occupy our land.”
Head of Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun stated that the real condemnation is not for those who were misguided into blowing themselves up, but for the countries that planned and funded such attacks which led the region into a “Fiery Furnace”.
From New York, Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai denounced the series of explosions in al-Qaa, calling on the Lebanese people to stand united and side by side to face all that terrorists have planned for Lebanon.
The British Embassy in Lebanon offered condolences to the victims’ families, stressing its commitment to supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces in a bid to protect Lebanon’s security and stability.
For its part, the Jordanian government condemned al-Qaa's bombings and noted that the Lebanese "understand the importance of their solidarity in the face of challenges."
