REPORT: Muslim Scholars protest against Sheikh Tarras' detention
The Muslim Scholars Committee protested on Sunday the detention of former Mufti Sheikh Bassam al-Tarras outside the Military Tribunal.

They expressed their concerns over what they feel is “oppression against the Sunni Muslim community.”

“This treatment is what helps foster terrorism, and if Sheikh al-Tarras’ accusation is that he supports the Syrian people, then we are all guilty,” they said outside the court.

Al-Tarras was previously arrested and quickly released last month over his alleged involvement in the August 31 roadside bombing in the Bekaa Valley city of Zahle.

Two people were killed and others were injured in the attack.

He was summoned again on Thursday for questioning over “security issues."

The sheikh’s son, Ameir, was arrested on Friday for interrogation following a police raid on his house.
