The Maronite Bishops on Wednesday council called for a commitment to peacemaking in Lebanon and the Middle East, pointing out that peace is both a “gift of god and of man.”             

The council called for the renunciation of violence in Syria, expressing concern over the rising number of displaced refugees in the country.           

It also called for the resumption of regulatory parliamentary work as soon the as the sub-committee tasked with discussing the electoral law comes to an end.             
In its concluding statement, the council called for the formation of a government capable of taking on national roles including the implementation of security and the conduct of safe and swift elections.                  

The periodic meeting of the Maronite Bishops Council kicked off on Wednesday morning at Bkerke under the chairmanship of Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Rai, in the presence of Cardinal Nasrallah Sfeir to discuss national and church affairs.
