Prime Minister Najib Mikati met on Tuesday with the mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by the new head of mission Ernesto Ramirez, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Saadeh al-Chami and Economic Adviser to OM Mikati Samir al-Daher, at the Grand Serail.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the framework of the agreement on the recovery program and its main details, including public finance, the banking sector, the Banque du Liban, structural reforms and monetary policy.

This as the delegation expressed readiness to help Lebanon reach an agreement to end its current crisis.

Later in the day, the delegation met with President Michel Aoun, who expressed Lebanon's keenness on developing a workable reform plan and on working with the International Monetary Fund to have it approved rapidly through talks between the Lebanese and International sides.

President Aoun briefed the group on the forensic audit of the Banque du Liban's accounts, which will identify the losses and responsibilities before they are distributed.

Aoun also emphasized the importance of prioritizing social and health issues, combating poverty, and continuing to reform the country's infrastructure, including electricity, telecommunications, and the rehabilitation of the Port of Beirut, as well as water projects, dams, and other infrastructure, without overlooking the importance of the services sector in the Lebanese economy, in addition to both the industry and agriculture sectors.

The delegation then met with Head of Finance and Budget Committee MP Ibrahim Kanaan and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee MP Yassine Jaber, whereby they tackled financial and economic situation in light of the current crisis, as well as ways to address it.
