WHO: "Preliminary commitment" to humanitarian ceasefires during polio vaccination campaign in Gaza

A senior official at the World Health Organization said on Thursday that the organization had received a "preliminary commitment" for temporary ceasefires in specific humanitarian areas in the Gaza conflict to allow for a polio vaccination campaign.

The United Nations is preparing to vaccinate an estimated 640,000 children in Gaza, where the WHO confirmed on August 23 that at least one infant has already contracted polio due to the type two poliovirus, marking the first recorded case of the disease in the region in 25 years.
