Bassil inaugurates al-Qaisamani dam project amid protests

Caretaker Energy and Water Minister Gebran Bassil announced Wednesday that the al-Qaisamani dam project was finalized in cooperation with the Development and Construction Council.

"The Kuwaiti fund played a key role in providing money," Bassil said during the inauguration of the al-Qaisamani dam project.

Minister Bassil highlighted the advantages of the said project, noting that it will supply water for 148 thousand people across 30 towns.

He confirmed that the village of Hammana will not be under any kind of hazards, noting that the project will be implemented in order to benefit the region.

This comes after residents of Hammana held a sit-in and blocked the Dahr al-Baidar international highway at the Falougha intersection, the state-run National News Agency reported.

They voiced their rejection to the inauguration of the al-Qaisamani dam project in the Falougha area, “which may affect drinking water supply in the village of Hammana in the future,” the agency said.
