Ali Yaacoub slams arrest of his brother, former MP Hassan Yaacoub
Ali Yaacoub, the brother of former MP Hassan Yaacoub, said on Friday that his brother’s arrest “raises suspicion,” noting that there are political motives behind it.
During a solidarity rally held outside the Justice Palace to support the ex-MP, Ali Yaacoub reiterated the need to refer the case to the judiciary if there is any evidence.

Ali also revealed that the Libyan Justice Minister requested the Lebanese delegation to head to Libya to inform him of the latest developments, describing the interrogation of Yaacoub's family members as "shameful".

The protesters then headed toward the residence of State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud in Wata el-Msaytbeh, where they cut off the road, calling upon Hammoud to reconsider Yaacoub's case.

This as the state-run National News Agency reported that the Internal Security Forces’ Information branch released three of the former MP's companions, and kept the fourth into custody.

Earlier today, the residents of the town of Makneh blocked the Makneh – Baalbek – Hermel road with burning tires and prevented vehicles from passing for a brief period of time, to protest the arrest of former lawmaker Hassan Yaacoub.

Similarly, supporters of the former deputy blocked the airport road, to protest against what they called "an arbitrary arrest."

Former MP Hassan Yaacoub was arrested on Thursday during his questioning over the kidnapping of the son of former Libyan leader Moammer Gaddafi.

Yaacoub's father was accompanying Imam Moussa al-Sadr and another man when they disappeared in Libya in 1978.
