PM Mikati holds series of meetings
Prime Minister Najib Mikati met on Friday with Justice Minister Henry Khoury, and discussed a number of files related to the ministry.

During the meeting, Mikati stressed that concern for the judiciary’s independence and non-interference in judicial affairs is equaled by concern for the country’s overall stability, particularly in terms of finances.

“It is clear that the course of action taken by some judges was heightening tensions in the country, and there are attempts to use this tension in electoral campaigns,” Mikati stated, adding that “this is a dangerous matter they have previously warned against.”

They then both agreed to ask Public Prosecutor Judge Ghassan Oueidat to take the appropriate measures on the financial file.

Mikati has also received EU Ambassador in Lebanon Ralph Tarraf, who indicated that “he handed over Mikati the draft documents that they started negotiating with the Lebanese government regarding the EU-Lebanon partnership priorities.”

Tarraf underlined that they have begun the process of negotiating bilateral partnership priorities with Lebanon, noting that “these negotiations are taking place in a very complex environment and circumstances, and they very much hope that the government will continue its efforts to finish the agreement with the International Monetary Fund.”

PM Mikati also held a meeting with a delegation from the Group of Seven (G7), which included EU Ambassador in Lebanon Ralph Tarraf, and the ambassadors and representatives of the United States, Canada, Japan, Britain, Italy, France and Germany.

The relations between Lebanon and the G7 and the situation in Ukraine were the focus of the discussion.
