MP Ihab Matar to LBCI: Decision to elect a president is held hostage

MP Ihab Matar believed on Tuesday that the country is held hostage, and the decision to elect a president is also held hostage. He pointed out that those who obstruct the election of the president are the ones kidnapping the entire country.

Matar’s comments were made during an interview on LBCI’s "Naharkom Said" TV show whereby he pointed out that "everything that has been happening in the media and beyond for about a year, wasn't it a form of dialogue?”
“If it were, we might have had a president today through dialogue," he added.
He considered that the current direction should be towards constitutional work within the framework of the parliament to elect a president.

He also emphasized that any dialogues that are not based on respecting the Constitution will not lead to the election of a president.
“If they do lead to electing a president, it won't be an electoral process but rather a settlement, another deal that signifies more corruption and failure for the country,” Matar stressed.
He pointed out that those who obstruct the election of the president are those who are bargaining for their special interests.
