Israeli official: Ground operation extended only a short distance into Lebanon

An Israeli security official said Tuesday that the operation launched by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon overnight is limited and has only extended a short distance across the border, adding that there have been no reports of direct clashes with Hezbollah fighters.

The official noted that the option of a broader operation targeting the Lebanese capital, Beirut, "is not on the table."
