UNIFIL says Israel notified of 'limited ground operations' in Lebanon

UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti announced that "the Israeli military informed UNIFIL on October 30 of its intention to carry out limited ground incursions into Lebanon." In response, the Israeli forces requested UNIFIL to relocate some of its positions.

Tenenti emphasized that UN peacekeepers remain stationed at all their locations with the UN flag still raised. He reiterated that UNIFIL regularly adjusts its positioning and activities and has emergency plans ready for activation.

"The safety and security of peacekeepers are paramount," he said, urging all parties to respect these commitments.

Tenenti concluded by calling on both Lebanon and Israel to recommit to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, emphasizing the importance of action, not just words, in restoring stability to the region.
